{ A Finished Quilt Top }

My 2012 Fat Quarter Shop Mystery BOM quilt top is done.

I cheated on the borders, shhhh. This quilt has been hanging around for so long I just wanted it to be done. And, now it is. I really do love it.

I've already prepared the binding. All that's left to do is piece the backing and decide what to do about the quilting. 

My quilting skill stops at straight lines. I think this quilt top needs a little more attention than I can give it. So, I will probably mail it out to a professional to make it pretty. 
Even without finishing the borders per the pattern, it's still a large quilt. Great for snuggling under--there's room for two.

{ Moving Right Along }

Even though it's not a finish....yet, I wanted to share the progress on my Fat Quarter Shop Mystery BOM from 2012. 

The top is almost finished- I just have the borders left to do. Three of them, with some flying geese thrown in for fun. {yeah, right}

Since we're expecting a winter storm this weekend, I'm hoping to get the borders pieced and attached. Maybe I'll even make the binding and piece the backing.  The blizzard could be a good thing!

{ Some Things Take Forever. }

Like my Fat Quarter Shop Mystery Block of the Month...................for 2012!!!  Geez, I just finished the last 12 inch block last week. This wasn't the only quilty project I was sewing , it just kept getting pushed aside while I worked on other things.

 

 

 

This is the first BOM that I signed up for and I made a really poor showing. I had all good intentions to make each block as it arrived but stuff happened.

 

Anyway, I purchased the finishing kit and the backing so now I have to get moving and finish this baby up. For those that don't know, the fabric is Vintage Modern by Bonnie & Camille. I love their fabrics.

 

I'm hoping it won't be too long before I show the finished quilt top. Is 2016 too far away?

{Mystery Block of the Month: Month 3}

August's block, aka block #3, is called {Weather Vane} and was designed by {Me & My Sister Designs}.

I really love the {Vintage Modern} fabric line by {Bonnie & Camille}.

Yes, I know it's October and I'm only just getting around to August's block. There's just not enough time in a day to do everything I'd like to. So, slowly I get myself caught up.

I cut the pieces out one evening while I was watching TV.  {Downton Abbey} is my viewing choice while sewing.  OMG, have you noticed the beautiful clothes all the women wear? Some of Mary's dresses are breathtaking. I can't wait for January 6 to come around. Season 3 begins in the US and I will be watching. Anyway, I sat down yesterday to sew the block. It wasn't difficult but I do seem to have a problem with flying geese units. They usually end up too small by a little bit. I'll have to try and sew more to the corner side of the drawn line on the next block and see how that works. 

{Mystery Block of the Month: Month 2}

I've begun to look forward to the 10th of the month and the arrival of the next Mystery Block. The second block, {Mint Julep}, was designed by Lisa Bonegan from {Primitive Gatherings}. This Mystery BOM is offered through {Fat Quarter Shop}. They are very, very generous with the amount of fabric that they include for each block. For last month and this month I was almost able to make two blocks. It seems the only fabric I was short on for a second block is the background fabric, white with grey polka dots. I guess it would be easy enough to purchase some yardage if I was set on making two quilts.

I cut and finished it in one evening. The fabrics of this collection are so pretty and the finished quilt will be beautiful.

{Mystery Block of the Month: Month One}

I've been anticipating this since January when I signed up for the 2012 Mystery Block of the Month from Fat Quarter Shop.  My first 'Block of the Month' arrived last Friday, along with the backing and the finishing kit. The block is called {Laundry Days}, designed by Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill Designs. The fabric is {Vintage Modern} by Bonnie & Camille. I first wrote about it here.

Here's the finishing kit, which includes the sashing fabric and the binding fabric. There are some flying geese between the blocks which will be more interesting than a plain sashing.

A special surprise was included with the block fabrics. A 'charm pack' of 2 1/2 inch squares. Maybe they can be incorporated into the backing somehow. 

I cut the pieces last night and assembled the block this afternoon. I present {Laundry Days}! It finishes up at 12 1/2 x 12 1/2.

{Building a Mystery}

I've officially reserved a spot in my first {Mystery Block of the Month} project through {Fat Quarter Shop}. I had no choice but to sign up when I found out that the fabric line chosen for the {Mystery Quilt} is going to be  from one of my favorite fabric designers {Bonnie & Camille}.

This is my next step into the world of quilting. The only information we're given ahead of time is the fabric choice and that it will be a vintage sampler quilt made with traditional blocks. Each month starting in June a package will be delivered which includes the pattern and fabric for the month's block. Over the next 12 months I'll be completing the quilt top. I've also reserved the finishing kit and the backing which will coordinate with the quilt top.

I have a growing list of quilts I'd like to complete in 2012. I don't know if I'll get to them all, but I'm sure I'll have time to spend each month to create one 12x12 block. I've always loved mysteries......
