Over at {Ellison Lane Quilts} the link up for the {Summer Sewing Contest} has begun. Summer really hasn't officially started so I really haven't done much sewing yet. I never thought I'd be saying this but, I have three projects in the works and none are near enough to be finished in the five days left to link up. So, for the second time I will present the 'Baby Smith Granny Square Quilt'.
I loved the process of making the Granny Squares. I had worked out my own system for assembling and trimming that worked out great.
I have plans & fabric to make at least one more before the summer is up. I only hope I can remember what I did on the first one. (Maybe I should start making notes so I can refer back to them at a later time.)
This quilt was made as a baby shower gift for the newest addition to our family. I'm sure it will be used and loved. Thanks for stopping by!

{Quilt for Baby Smith}
The Granny Square Baby Quilt is finished, well, except for the quilt label. I put the last stitches in the binding at 5:30pm, and by 5:35pm it was in the wash with a Shout Color Catcher. Then in 30 minutes, on the dryer's high setting, she was ready...all warm and crinkly. I love seeing a completed quilt when it comes out of the dryer.
The next step is making the quilt label. I have to plan it out between today and Saturday, then get it sewn on.
I really like the colors in these fabrics, the line is Salt Air by Cosmo Cricket. I hope little baby Smith loves this quilt.

{Granny Square Quilt Blocks}
I've joined in on the insanity.....Granny Square Quilt Blocks! It seems everyone, everywhere is making these simple but lovely blocks. It all started in January when Jolene at Blue Elephant Stitches posted a Granny Square quilt block tutorial. There are instructions for the block and information on constructing a quilt using the blocks. There are Flickr groups and quilt-alongs all dedicated to these 9 inch lovelies.
When I got the date for Shiela's baby shower I knew I'd like to have a quilt to bring along. This seemed the perfect choice. It's a little mix of traditional and modern. Deciding on fabrics took a little time since we don't officially know the baby's sex. She has made several slips over the past two months. Based on those slips and the choice of decor for the baby's nursery, it's pretty safe to say it's a boy. Anyway, I decided on Salt Air by Cosmo Cricket. It's a nice mix of blues, greens, corals, gold and reds which should work for either sex.
I finished four blocks last night. I'm going to like this!
