{ It Wouldn't Be Spring Without Some Weeds}

I've been waiting for the perfect project to use my fat quarter bundle of  Weeds, by Me & My Sister Designs. It's been staring at me for months.

 

I bounced between a Swoon quilt for the guest bedroom and Red Letter Day, also by Thimble Blossoms.

 

Red Letter Day won. I paired off 16 fat quarter last weekend and started cutting. The directions are easy to follow and the blocks come together quickly.  They finish around 23 inches.

I'm ready to start sewing the third block. Yay!

 

She'll be a gift for someone special so I'm not going to post any photos of the blocks,

 just in case she happens along this silly blog. I am really happy with the look so far.

 

This fabric line is so much fun to work with. I even have plenty of fat quarters left to make a Red Letter Day for myself. Wait, does anyone actually make a quilt for themselves? Every time I plan one, another quilt to be gifted jumps ahead.

{Spools & Flower Girl or Why Did I Buy More Quilt Patterns?}

I've found a lot of free quilt patterns online and have downloaded several that I like and plan to make...someday. There are other patterns that are so pretty that I can't help but purchase them with the hope that the perfect fabric will materialize {ha ha} and I'll create a beauty. 
I have been eyeballing two patterns from Camille at {Thimble Blossoms}. I've already purchased her {Swoon} pattern, which I'm making as a gift. I plan on a second {Swoon} quilt for ME from Bonnie & Camille's {Ruby} fabric line. I love their fabrics.

This morning I caved and ordered them both. Why not? I'll just add them to my "to do" list, which is ever increasing. I'm hoping someday I'll have all the time I want for my crafty hobbies and these quilts, a drawer full of knit socks, and my stained glass Orca panel will get done. 

{Building a Mystery}

I've officially reserved a spot in my first {Mystery Block of the Month} project through {Fat Quarter Shop}. I had no choice but to sign up when I found out that the fabric line chosen for the {Mystery Quilt} is going to be  from one of my favorite fabric designers {Bonnie & Camille}.

This is my next step into the world of quilting. The only information we're given ahead of time is the fabric choice and that it will be a vintage sampler quilt made with traditional blocks. Each month starting in June a package will be delivered which includes the pattern and fabric for the month's block. Over the next 12 months I'll be completing the quilt top. I've also reserved the finishing kit and the backing which will coordinate with the quilt top.

I have a growing list of quilts I'd like to complete in 2012. I don't know if I'll get to them all, but I'm sure I'll have time to spend each month to create one 12x12 block. I've always loved mysteries......

{Swoon}

I couldn't resist the pattern for {Swoon} by Camille Roskelley. I first saw it on her blog Simplify and decided that I'd like to try one of the blocks. She's also the designer of one of my favorite fabric lines, {Ruby}. The colors are beautiful. Anyway, I cut the fabric three nights ago and finished the first block this afternoon. I think it turned out  pretty darn good for a first attempt at a more complicated pattern. I even had a turn with flying geese for the first time. The only problem I ran into is that the finished blocks are supposed to be 24 1/2" and mine are 23 1/2". Guess my 1/4 " seam allowances aren't exactly 1/4". I would think that as long as I'm consistently inexact I'll be ok. Next week I'll cut another block and piece it. I'll see how long it takes to finish the 9 blocks required to complete the quilt top. I already have someone in mind to give it to...
